Among the wide range of body modifications available, tattoos have successfully gained widespread popularity. It not only enhances the overall appearance but also helps to vent out the suppressed emotions. It also works as a protest against the so-called norms of the society. For many, tattoos are a new way of living and a fresh start.

With so many perks associated with a tattoo, it remains no doubt that people love to flaunt them in style. But what most of the people do wrong is that they don’t take care of the tattoo once it is done. Tattoo aftercare is extremely important in order to get better results. This post talks about some important facets on how to take the best care of the tattoo.

Let’s begin!

The Initial Bandage

After the artist completes tattoo making, the professional adds an initial bandage. It is best to keep the bandage intact for the next few hours. But once you remove it, make sure you do not cover the area once again. It is important to give the tattoo enough room to breathe and heal.

Covering the tattoo will trap moisture and make the tattooed area a breeding ground for harmful microorganisms. Also, do not touch your tattoo, especially when it is just made. Still, if someone insists, ask them to wash their hands with a medicated cleanser at least twice

Scratching

After a couple of days, the tattooed area gets dry, and unknowingly we tend to scratch the area. One has to keep in mind that scratching or peeling the dead skin will slow down the healing process. Leave it as it is, and to keep the urge to scratch, make sure to rub ice cubes around the area. You can also apply aloe vera gel or go for an oatmeal bath.

Make sure to stay away from fragranced serums as they have a lot of chemicals, and all of them will cause irritations. Make use of the ointment suggested by the artist and apply a thin coat. Using it more can clog the pores and lead to pimples.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water and following to a stable diet allows your skin to recover from the tattoo wound in a seamless manner. The damaged cells start repairing themselves at a considerable pace when the body is hydrated and has all the nutrients required for the body to recover. It is better to take a break on smoking for the time being.

Stay Calm

Excess sweating can also harm the healing process of the tattoo. So, it is better if you take a break from hitting the gym, cycle, lift heavy objects, or indulge in any kind of strenuous physical activity.

This will not put additional pressure on the skin, and it will recover gradually. Venturing out in the sun is also prohibited as the UV rays can fade the tattoos. If you cannot remain indoors and have to go out to run errands, make sure to apply enough sunscreen.

Following all these tattoo aftercare tips will help the tattoo recover quickly and deliver the best results.
